Yarn Along

Joining in with Ginny at Small Things.

I have had a very industrious week, knitting-wise.  I finished my Ruby Tea Leaves cardi .  I love it and it fits beautifully.  I also finished the cowl I was knitting for my friend’s birthday, which I named Créme de la Créme Loop.  I posted about them both earlier in the week.  You can see my notes on my Ravelry page too (I now have a linky button on the right side of my blog page).

I am currently knitting a hat for Scarlett’s friend, whose birthday party is this coming Saturday.  It is an easy pattern that knits up quick.  The pattern can be found here.  I have finished the main part of the hat, just need to do the earflaps, i-cord and I’ll add tassels to the ends of the i-cord.  I’ve knitted this pattern quite a few times now and come back to it when I need a quick gift.  The yarn I’m using is from my stash, Cleckheaton Country Silk 8ply.

Can’t wait to see what you have all been up to over the last week.  Jacinta x

Ruby Tea Leaves

I’m so excited to be showing you my finished (ok, will need to block it) Tea Leaves cardi.  I love it and I managed to score the last of the two most perfect buttons today a local wool store. My mum happend to be visiting today, so she offered to take a couple of pictures for me, as I was busting to share the cardi with you all.  I can honestly say this is one of the easiest patterns to follow and it fits beautifully.  I knitted the 36″ size.  I added a little length to the sleeves and a little extra to the body to get a better fit, but otherwise, the shaping is perfect.  If you have been contemplating knitting this, I say go ahead and treat yourself.  You won’t be disappointed.  My Ravelry notes are here.

Now go forth and knit!  Jacinta x

Créme de la Créme Loop

I stated this cowl on Wednesday and finished it Friday.  It was such a quick and fun knit.  It’s for a friend’s birthday next month.  I washed and blocked it today and it has come up so soft, not at all scratchy and is long enough that you can wrap it 2-3 times. My Ravelry notes can be found here.  I love that the original pattern is written more like a guide, so adding your own design is all part of the fun.  I foresee many more of these being knitted in my future!  I think it may well have become my new go-to gift project.  Do you have a favourite you fall back on for gift giving?

This Moment

From Soulemama {this moment} – A Friday ritual. A single photo – some words – capturing a moment from the week. A simple, special, extraordinary moment.  A moment I want to pause, savour and remember.

Just to give you a perspective of how big these trees are in our yard, that little blue dot at the base of the tree in the middle of the picture is Tenneille sitting on a rock!

I love your moments too.  So feel free to leave a link in the comment section for us all to see.  Have a beautiful weekend.  Jacinta x

Yarn Along

Joining in with Ginny from Small Things this week.

I am happy to say I have finished my Puerperium.  I love how it has knitted up, even if it is still a little bigger than intended, but then it will fit longer won’t it!  I found the perfect buttons while out for a friends birthday earlier this week.  The yarn is made by Bendigo Woollen Mills, Luxury 8ply in Lake.  It’s so soft and buttery, very hard to believe it is 100% pure wool.  It’s perfect for babies.

Close up of the buttons

As for my Tea Leaves cardi, I now have both sleeves knitted, just the button bands and I’m done.  Hopefully I’ll have pictures next week.  I have started a new project for a friend’s birthday gift.  It will be based on this pattern.  The yarn is lovely and soft.  I’m already 4 rows in, after casting it on this afternoon.  So I should have it knitted up pretty quick.

The yarn I’m using for my friend’s birthday present

I finished, The Year The Horses Came, by Mary Mackey.  While it was an ok read, it was pretty full on in places, not for those who don’t like gruesome scenes.  Of course, it has ended on a bit of a cliff hanger, so I will have to read the next book to find out what happens next and being a trilogy, probably all three books!  I think I need a change for the time being though, I have been searching for something else to read, but haven’t found anything that grabs me so far.  Will be seeing what you are all recommending.

A Walk In The Woods…..

of the fabric kind that is!  Earlier in the year I entered a fabric giveaway on Retro Mummy.  I was excited to find that I had won the giveaway, 2 charm packs of A Walk In The Woods by Aneela Hoey and about 3 metres of contrasting fabric .  It finally arrived a couple of weeks ago and I have been waiting for good lighting to take some decent pictures, today was the day.  Corrie from Retro Mummy threw in an extra charm pack of Trade Winds by Lily Ashbury too.

I’ve got a couple of ideas for what I want to make, most likely a quilt.  I know both Scarlett and Tenneille love this fabric, especially the toadstools and the cute fox.  Now to find that elusive crafting time in which to make my project happen.  I must say this is one of my favourite fabric lines to date.  Have you got a favourite fabric?  Please feel free to share.

Yarn Along

Joining in with Ginny from Small Things.

I have put aside my Beyond Puerperium from last week to finish for Jairah at a later date.  I have cast on another in a smaller size.  It does seem to be a pattern that runs on the large side.  I know my gauge is right.  I am knitting the 0-3 month size and it looks closer to 6 months, which should be fine for my friend’s baby, as I am aiming for it to fit for the coming European winter.  I’m using Bendigo Woollen Mills luxury 8ply in Lake.  It’s a lovely grey/blue and buttery soft.

This is the closest to the actual colour of the yarn.

As for reading, I have dug out one of my Barbara Kingsolver books, Small Wonder.  I’m looking forward to reading it again.

Can’t wait to see what you have all be crafting this week.  Jacinta x

Sweet Bouquets

Having had a very wet winter so far, there was a break in the weather and we found ourselves outside this afternoon after school.  Scarlett and Tenneille discovered the first of the violets which have suddenly popped up their fragrant heads en masse.  So a flower picking frenzy began.  I told them to pick as many as possible, after all, I don’t think they could ever manage to pick them all.  Soon they both had beautiful bouquets of violets mixed in with various greenery.  As for Jairah, well chose to eat his violets, cheeky little poppet.  I happily stood back watching them run around the yard in search of the next piece for their floral arrangements, or in Jairah’s case, his culinary delight!

The girls chose to help each other out when one of them couldn’t reach a branch and Scarlett even offered to donate one of her four leaf clovers to Tenneille when she lost hers.  Now that might not sound like much, but my girls certainly have a love/hate relationship sometimes.  I don’t care if it sounds corny, but that moment made my heart proud.  To top off a lovely afternoon, I now have some very sweet bouquets taking pride of place on my kitchen bench.

Of course the dog had to be part of the bouquet process!

Can you see the 4 leaf clover at the front of the bouquet?

What are the simple things your kids do, that can make a day one to remember?
