Yarn Along

Following along with Ginny at Small Things.

Well my Fear Of Commitment Cowl is off the needles.  The loose ends are now woven in, just need to pick out a button and it’s finished.  I’m happy with how it has turned out and can’t wait to wear it.  The pattern is easy enough for a beginner knitter to attempt, as there are only two lines of repeat to make the seeded rib stitch. The yarn is from my stash, made by Moda Vera and is labeled Mousse.  I’d describe the colour as peacock blue. It has a lovely richness to it and is a blend of wool and soya with an uneven weave to it that resembles hand spun yarn.

This shows the yarn closest to it's true colour

As for reading.  I’ve had a book on my bedside table for months that I think I will read this week.  It’s called A Love Like Ours, by Rosie Harris.

Can’t wait to see what you have all been creating this week.  Jacinta x

Baby Quilt

You might remember my little sneak peek of a project I was working on last week, well it was for some friend’s of ours who recently had a sweet little baby boy.  Baby’s mama appreciates handmade items, so I knew a baby quilt was in order.  I bought the fabric from my favourite Australia quilt store wantitneeditquiltit.  Jane, is so lovely to deal with and her prices are fantastic!  I love the colours in the fabric and as always, moda fabric is of great quality.  The fabric was actually purchase as a quilt kit that Jane had designed, but me, in my usual craft craziness, knew that I’d no hope in finishing the quilt in time if I had to do the aplique that was part of the original design (I only had a week to get the quilt finished with very limited time).  So I just added an extra row of charm squares to the pattern and omitted the lollypop aplique.  However, Jane’s instructions for the pattern are very precise,  so I have no hesitation in recommending the original pattern.

I certainly enjoyed having a gorgeous little boy to hold, who happily slept his time away in my arms.  I’m so hopeless when it comes to babies, cluck, cluck, cluck!  I certainly feel like a little piece of me always goes with a gift I have made and I hope little baby ‘A’ enjoys his quilt for many years to come.  I have a little something for their daughter too, but it is still in the throws of being finished.  I will share a picture once I have finished big sister’s gift (cause we all know big-little siblings are special too).

Cozying Up

It has been such a cold, wet wintery day.  I don’t think the temperature got above 8 degrees.  The perfect day to stay indoors, well apart from getting the girls to and from school.  Oh, and having to go to the supermarket twice!  The initial visit, where I discovered I didn’t have my wallet when I went to pay (insert very red face).  Thankfully, living in a fairly rural area, they were lovely enough to put my stuff aside while I  got the kids from school then dashed home to get my wallet.  I felt so silly having to return and explain to someone I was there to pick up and pay for my groceries!

Anyway, I digress.  I’ve been working on a little something for a gift, that I will share here soon, but just incase the recipient reads here, I can only offer a sneak peak.  I am currently tucked up in bed, ready to continue doing a little hand sewing while trying to ignore my allergies.  I wish I knew what set them off, it certainly makes me feel miserable.  But a fix of Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries on ABC iview, will be the perfect medicine for this mama.  We don’t have a tv hooked up to free to air, or pay tv, so often I have no idea about tv shows that people talk about.  But when I was told there was a series based on the Phryne Fisher books, I knew I had to check it out.  I’m three episodes in and so far I’m enjoying the series.  The books/tv series are primarily set in Melbourne and the surrounding countryside back in the 1920’s.  If you can get your hands on any of the books, I’m sure you would enjoy them.

I hope you have a lovely evening planned.  Jacinta x

Yarn Along

Joining in with Ginny from Small Things this week.

After my knitting issues last week, I’ve decided to cast on another project in the meantime, until I can face casting on my beret again.  The pattern is called Fear of Commitment Cowl.  The pattern is on Ravelry.  I’m knitting it to go with this cloche style hat I made last year.  The colour of the yarn is hard to get right, kind of a peacock blue, not grey/blue like in the picture. Doesn’t help that I have taken the photo late at night.  It’s a really straightforward pattern that ‘should’ knit up quickly, just as long as I leave it out of the reach of curious little fingers.

As for reading.  I just finished a Kindle book, Wild Montana Sky.  A good old romance novel.  Set in the 1800’s in Boston and then rural Montana.  Rich girl falls for ranch boy kind of story.  Not bad considering it was a 99c special.

Looking forward to seeing what you have all been crafting and reading too.

Autumn’s Splender

Our little pocket of the world is truly beautiful all year round, but come autumn these hills are dotted with many gorgeous colours, changing everyday.  Mother Nature certainly doesn’t do things by halves.  The crisp nights and sunny days certainly make for a happy heart.  We are lucky to have beautiful parks within walking distance or just a short drive away in which there are amazing plant specimens from around the world.

My excitement is growing at the prospect of lighting the open fire soon and spending cozy nights knitting in front of it.  The only downfall is that I end up staying up later than normal because I can’t draw myself away from the warmth.  Oh my, how I love autumn.  What’s your favourite season?

Sunkissed Cushions

I have had it in mind for a while now, to make some cushions for Tennielle’s room to match her birthday quilt.  As the weather has settled into some rather wintery conditions, we have been spending a lot of time indoors, which means I have managed to sneak in some sewing time much to my delight.  I had so much fun piecing the cushions together from the leftover quilt scraps.  In fact, I can see myself getting addicted to making them, as they are quick and easy to put together.  The larger pillow I stuffed with a spare cushion insert we had lying around.  The smaller cushion I left unfilled, as I thought it would be a great place for Tenneille to put her pyjamas.  She was delighted to find them on her bed this afternoon and she managed to find her pyjamas hidden in the cushion.  Not much escapes that girl.

The pillow on the right is the pj pillow!

I still think that Sweetwater’s Sunkissed is one of my all time favourite fabric lines.  I still have a little of it left, but might just have to put it aside, but then again, you can’t have too many cushions, can you?

Yarn Along

Joining in with Ginny at Small Things for yarn along this week.

Well as far as knitting goes, I’m in the negative.  Jairah found my knitting bag the other day and obviously it was too much for him to see yarn on needles, so he so kindly unravelled my beret.  At the time, we were in the crazy hour before getting the girls off to school, I told Greg that I needed to step outside for a minute or two and well, I cried.  Crafting time is a little precious around here and the thought of having to cast on the beret for a third time overwhelmed me.  I thought I would get around to casting it back on today, as we had a public holiday, but with everyone home, I ended up spending most of my day in the kitchen.  At least we had yummy cinnamon scrolls for afternoon tea.

As for reading, I finished a Kindle book, called The Women of Magnolia by Marlene Mitchell.  It was set in the Civil War era, based in the South.  There were multiple story lines that intertwined throughout the book linking the characters together and the hardships they endured along the way.  It certainly wasn’t dull and I quite liked the book as a whole.

I can’t wait to see what you have all been crafting.  I always love hearing about different books you are reading too.
